We're now well into June and our flowers are putting on their display, bringing a wash of colour and an intoxicating sweet fragrance to our garden.
The familiar sound of bumble bees can be heard around every corner and the sky is full of house martins and swifts darting about.
Whilst everything is coming to life it is however becoming noticeable that we've not had nearly enough rainfall. The grass is starting to brown, bringing flashbacks to last summer and the flower beds are already needing a regular watering. Our gardeners have started to arrive that little bit earlier to water the plants and will also be mulching the borders to help retain that vital water.
We have just had two trees removed from the top end of our garden, with plans to remove another two in the near future. We instantly noticed how much brighter the entrance to our garden is and plans will soon be underway to create a new colourful planting scheme to welcome our guests into the hotel.
The job list is continuous for our gardeners this month, but here are just a few things that they will be up to:
• Pruning Spring flowering shrubs
• Cutting back any remaining foliage from Spring flowering bulbs
• Regular weeding of all flower beds, pathways and lawns
• Mulching borders
• Pruning box hedges
• Tying in climbers such as honeysuckle and clematis
• Daily deadheading
• Feeding potted plants and hanging baskets with liquid seaweed
• Regular mowing
June 21st is the longest day of the year and what better way to celebrate than being out in the garden.
