What is the secret of the quintessential English country house experience? We think we know – opulent, comfortable, intuitive surroundings, roaring fires during the winter, direct access to our gardens during spring, fabulous food and drink year-round.
Visitors arrive to oak panelling, polished, herringbone parquet and the tick of a longcase clock. While away a half hour with coffee and the papers in our Victorian-style Magnolia Lounge or take tea in the conservatory overlooking the garden.
The Terrace restaurant offer an unparalleled dining experience at the heart of the hotel. Expect richly comforting dishes fused with delicate touches of innovation. Head chef Matthew Tomkinson creates a seasonal, award-winning menu capturing a delicious and exciting range of flavours, textures and aromas; food you will definitely want to linger over. His commitment to the perfect dining experience drives everything he does. No fan of passing fads: “Every ingredient has to deserve its place on the plate”,
Or nip around to Monty’s Inn for less formal dining or to enjoy a swift half or two. Country fare using fresh local ingredients and classic English favourites combine with hand-pulled ales to provide the cosy country pub atmosphere that Monty's has become famous for
Upstairs we have 24 en-suite bedrooms, all different, some including four-poster beds, and every one designed to make you feel completely at home. Fresh flowers from our garden are placed in your room every day and we bring complimentary tea and coffee to you every morning, along with your favourite newspaper. A fluffy bathrobe comes as standard for each guest, as do complimentary toiletries from The White Company.
Outside is just as restful. Take a turn about our Gertrude Jekyll-inspired gardens, listen to the pond fountain designed by Giuseppe Lund, play a game of croquet on the upper terrace, say hello to our hens – they provide your breakfast eggs – or take a look our kitchen garden. Don’t be surprised if you find our Roux Scholar chef Matthew Tomkinson joining you – it’s where he gets many of the ingredients and the inspiration for his award-wining dishes.
Don’t be surprised, too, if you walk out of our front door to be greeted by a line of ponies or donkeys – this is the New Forest and the gentle beasts roam where they will! Across the way is Beaulieu’s magnificent Palace House and the National Motor Museum. The world-class Exbury Gardens (a favourite with Her Majesty the Queen) are a short drive away, as is the ancient village of Buckler’s Hard and the New Forest’s beautiful ‘secret’ coast - gateway to the challenging sailing waters of the Solent.
If you fancy a swim or gym session, or a massage, facial or beauty treatment, then let us know and we’ll arrange for you to be welcomed at SenSpa, our multi award-winning day spa at our sister hotel, Carey’s Manor, in the nearby village of Brockenhurst.
