Top Tips for Including Dogs in Weddings

1st Apr 2024

At New Forest wedding venue, the Montagu Arms, we know for many couples, having their beloved furry friend be a part of their wedding day is a must. After all, our dogs are not just pets but valued members of our families.

Including your dog in your wedding can make the day even more special and memorable. However, it can also be a little tricky to coordinate such an important role for your pup.

Here are some top tips to help you include your dog in your wedding:

Dog Wedding Ceremony

Check with your venue:

It’s important to check with the venue to see if they have any specific guidelines or rules for pets.  There is no need to worry at our dog friendly hotel in Hampshire, as we offer dog friendly wedding ceremonies and wedding breakfasts as well as welcoming them throughout the hotel lounges and gardens and we have a wide range of dog friendly bedrooms and suites.

Dress them up:

There are plenty of adorable wedding outfits and accessories available for dogs, so why not dress them up for the occasion? Whether it's a floral collar, a bow tie, or a tutu, having your pup look their best will make them feel like a part of the celebration.

Include them in photos:

Your dog is a special part of your life, so be sure to include them in your wedding photos. Whether it's posed shots with your pup or candid moments, having them in your pictures will help capture the love and joy of your wedding day.

What part will your dog play at your wedding:

If your dog will be playing an important role during your big day such as a ring bearer, it’s important to practice with your dog beforehand to ensure they are comfortable with their role and behave appropriately on the day of the wedding. This can help prevent any unexpected mishaps or disruptions during the ceremony.

Have a designated handler:

While you may want your dog to have a special role in your ceremony, it's important to have someone responsible for handling them on the big day. This person can help ensure that your dog behaves and is comfortable in the busy and unfamiliar environment.  You can ask a trusted friend or family member to take on this role, or you can hire a professional pet sitter or dog walker to provide dedicated care for your dog on your special day.  At our New Forest wedding venue, we’re here to help you find your perfect dog sitter.

Dog at Wedding

Provide them with a quiet space:

Weddings can be overwhelming for dogs with all the noise and commotion. Be sure to provide your pup with a quiet space where they can retreat if they need a break from the festivities.

Think about your guests:

Consider including a note on your wedding invitations or wedding website that mentions a dog will be present at the event. If any of your guests have severe allergies or fears of dogs, they may appreciate the heads up so they can prepare accordingly.

Including your dog in your wedding can add a special and unique touch to your big day. With a little planning and preparation, your furry friend can play a memorable role in your celebration of love at our New Forest Wedding Venue.
