The Proposal

On top of Fan Brycheiniog, a mountain in the Welsh Brecon Beacons, on a glorious, sunny and clear blue sky, October day.

When did you get married?

Saturday 10th August 2013

Why did you choose The Montagu Arms Hotel for your wedding?

It was chosen before we were even engaged... it's the perfect size (intimate without being small) and epitomises what a luxury hotel should be. Elegant without being showy, understated class and service which is always there but never in your face.

The Dress

Ivory lace with cap sleeves and a V back, column skirt and train by Suzanne Neville.

The Groom's outfit

It was a kilt of the Grooms family tartan, which was also worn by his father, paired with a charcoal tweed jacket and waistcoat and forest green wool tie... Quite a heavy outfit for such a glorious, sunny day!

The Bridesmaids

Emma and Kate, friends from travelling and university, and my three year old niece Milly. They all had dresses from Little Bevan in Pimlico. Emma and Kate had ocean blue dresses with a bow that matched Milly's bow on her ivory dress.

The Ceremony

We had 90 guests in the terrace restaurant for the ceremony which was an ideal amount. The registrars were excellent, as we're the readings from the Grooms sister (a traditional Scottish verse) and the Brides brother and cousin (a more light hearted poem)

The Reception

We were fortunate to have fantastic weather and so were able to enjoy the gardens. A hog roast later in the evening was the perfect 'pick me up' and enjoyed by all the guests. Our band 'Alibi' were exceptional and commented on by all the guests. The dance floor was full the whole evening.

The Flowers

Fiori by Lynne did a wonderful job. We went for an 'English country wedding' theme with a hint of Scotland. Lots of whites, pinks and purples. The buttonholes were a white rose with a thistle.

The Décor

We did very little with the decor. One of the reasons we chose the Montagu Arms was the fact we were able to walk into a classically decorated venue straight away. We had some beautiful flowers, including some spiralling round the staircase, and there was nothing we wanted to, or would have changed. We named the tables after significant mountains - groom's choice!

How do you feel the day went?

Wonderful. It was the best day of our lives, as your wedding day should be. The guests also rated it as one of their most enjoyable weddings, which is nice to hear.

Any particular memories from your Wedding Story that stand out that you would like to share?

Doing a 90 person long conga line to 'love train' around the hotel as a last dance...
