Honour Easter With Some Traditional But Unusual Games!

14th Mar 2014

Easter isn't far away now and it’s time to start thinking about plans for the best Sunday in Spring. Easter is a time to celebrate with friends and family and also indulge in delicious chocolate eggs and beautifully cooked food.
We are inviting you to join us on 20th April for a traditional Sunday Lunch to be held in our Terrace Restaurant. With exquisite dining to look forward to, it truly will be an Easter to remember.
Our executive chef, Matthew Tomkinson and his team will ensure your taste buds are treated to a real Sunday treat, with beautiful home cooked food.
With spring well and truly underway, it will be the perfect time to explore the New Forest and an after-lunch walk will be perfect to put that spring back in your step.
The daffodils will be out in force and the bluebells will be everywhere, so take some time to thoroughly take in the beautiful surrounding areas which encapsulate the Montagu Arms.
You may even want to partake in a traditional Easter game or two? We all know of the classic Egg painting and Easter Egg hunt, however have you ever played a game of Hop-Egging?
A tradition started by the Saxons in the 5th century, the game entailed laying out lots of uncooked eggs on the floor, and performing a dance around them, without breaking and damaging any.
Or perhaps a game of Egg-tapping? A similar theme to the traditional game of conkers, two players face each other with eggs held in their fist, with only one end of the egg partially showing.
The aim of the game is to cause damage to the other persons egg without breaking yours. It is advised this game should be played with hardboiled egg, unless you fancy a slightly more messy game!
