Why Choose a Winter Wedding?
By Wedding Coordinator - Clara Earp
Winter weddings have a special place in my heart with my own wedding taking place in February.
You know that it will be chilly, there will be a very real possibility it will rain and maybe even snow but as a bride there is some real comfort in the inevitable. There is no need for plan B should Mother Nature decide to not bless you with blue skies and sunshine.
1. Be different
Fewer weddings take place during these chilly months, so yours will naturally stand out and is guaranteed to make an impression. Plus, your wedding will provide something to look forward to in the colder months.
2. Get cosy
Imagine those open fires roaring in the background of cosy lounges while you enjoy your drinks reception. As the nights draw in sooner, you can have loads of candles, garden lanterns and fairy lights. It's so magical and very romantic.
3. Embrace the season
During winter you have got so many great themes to choose from. Bonfire Night, Christmas, Valentines. Think mistletoe, berries, snowflakes, Christmas trees and even Fireworks. You can spoil your guests with mince pies, mulled wine or cider and other seasonal goodies. Our head Somillier recommends warm 'Spiced Cider' which is a delicious warm blend of cinnamon, rosemary, apple and cider.
4. The winter look
The winter look is so glamorous. There are no rules so you can have great fun with wraps, boots, fur or gloves. The dress possibilities are endless wear long sleeves, or wear that strapless gown and accessorise for a warm yet stylish look. I love willow from Suzanne Neville's vintage rose collection which is available at Brides of Winchester.
5. Get your first choice of suppliers
Being a less popular time for weddings you will get much more choice of suppliers and the added bonus that many vendors offer some better value packages during the winter months.
Helen Rushton Photography if a fabulous choice as you wedding day photographer.
6. A tropical honeymoon
Another big reason to choose a winter wedding is the idea of an island honeymoon! Escape from the cold, and fly to a warm and sunny island for a sweet honeymoon adventure. I choose the Maldives for mine and it really is paradise.
So that's why winter is my favourite season for a wedding and why I chose February my special day, it was a beautiful bright day and the light was just perfect for the photos in the afternoon then we had an intimate meal with loads of candle light and lanterns then drinks round the fire late in to the evening, it was just magical.
