When planning your weekend break in the New Forest, you are truly spoilt for choice; do you venture into the forest for long walks and cycle rides, explore motoring history, spend a day beside the seaside or simply relax with an indulgent afternoon tea and your favourite novel?
To help you answer this very difficult dilemma we have put together some of our favourite events happening in and around Beaulieu this summer -
Just 3.5 miles from our quaint hotel in Beaulieu is a haven for the green-fingered and a place of inspiration for any artist – peruse local artworks, visit the steam railway or spend time picnicking in the glorious gardens. Exbury Gardens is a must-visit when you come to spend time in the New Forest.
Experience the sights and sounds of a working narrow-gauge steam railway. Witness the turntable in action and marvel at the attention to detail on the replica train station before boarding the train. New safety measures are in place to ensure that the steam railway operates as safely as it can.
Featuring some of the UK's best tribute acts, Exbury Gardens will be hosting two nights of live music to the backdrop of their beautiful gardens. 21st Century Queen and Elton John perform on the first evening followed by 21st Century ABBA on the second evening. A wonderful way to enjoy a summers evening!
The best spots to visit at Exbury during summer include the Centenary Garden, Iris Garden, Sundial Garden, Hydrangea Walk and the Herbaceous Garden (pictured). All are in full blook this time of year.
Less than half a mile from our Beaulieu hotel’s doorstep is the renowned National Motor Museum. Bursting with motor cars and memorabilia from TV, film and Formula 1, this award-winning museum has one of the finest collections in the world.
Whether you are a motoring enthusiast or an admirer of architecture or a history-buff, you will enjoy wandering the beautiful grounds, visiting Beaulieu Abbey and stepping back in time at the great Palace House.
From colourfully painted house fittings to ornate handbags and bold fancy dress costumes, The Art of Belinda, Lady Montagu - her story in stitches showcases Belinda's work in the former private wing of Palace House.
With entrance through a false bookshelf door, the library formed part of the late Lord Montagu's private apartments and is where Lord Montagu would play his records. If the windows were open, visitors could sometimes hear his favourite music playing across the lawn!
The National Motor Museum invites all Mercedes-Benz owners to showcase their vehicles on this day dedicated to the Mercedes, with a display of old, new and an array of models in between.
British Classic owners and enthusiasts are invited to park up within the museum complex, providing a great opportunity to admire some stunning vehicles on display. Any pre-2000 classic vehicle built in Britain or by a British manufacturer is welcome to join.
Famed for its attractive rural surroundings and wild ponies, Beaulieu (meaning 'beautiful place') is also home to a country house hotel oozing charm, character and historical splendour. This summer, trade the city for an idyllic country retreat with one of our seasonal breaks.
