Meet the Suppliers - Pondhead Farm

Richard from Pondhead Farm can be found just a stone throw away from The Montagu Arms (6 miles to be exact). If you have tasted the delicious beef accompanying the Sunday lunch at The Terrace Restaurant or Monty’s Inn then you have Pondhead Farm to thank for it.

As a traditional family commoners’ holding established in 1939, Pondhead Farm produce Hereford Beef, Pannage Pork and a wide range of products including over 20 varieties of sausages (Inc. gluten-free), home cured bacon, pasties, sausage rolls and pork pies. 

We have worked with Richard at Pondhead Farm for nearly a decade and have reared a fantastic long-term relationship over the years. Richard understands the importance of the quality that the hotel endeavours to uphold and gives us nothing but the best time and time again. To top it off, the farm is local in the nearby village of Lyndhurst.

One of our key values as a restaurant is to protect the environment and reduce our carbon footprint wherever possible. Working with Pondhead Farm means Head Chef Matthew Whitfield is guaranteed that the beef and pork delivered to the door is the freshest it can be and has the least environmental impact. But it’s not just the close proximity of the farm that attracted him, it’s the fact the farm is small, so in turn has very high standards of welfare for all the animals reared.

At Pondhead Farm, the cattle are free range and they benefit from being out and about in the New Forest. Their stomping ground is between Beaulieu, Ashurst and Brockenhurst. When asked why it was so important to support local business, Richard explained:

“Provenance. The food industry is fast-paced and is constantly moving and shifting, but if you support local, you have the best knowledge of the provenance of the food received. Local supports local and in turn we can all prosper from working together in the community. ”

The restaurant is open to residents and non-residents daily for lunch and dinner. Whether it's for a celebration, executive meeting, private birthday dinner or afternoon tea - For places to eat in Hampshire, The Montagu Arms is the perfect spot.
