Many adore the soft hum of a bee. It represents life in the garden and thanks to our Head Gardens, Barry Daniel; we have some tips on how you can attract more of this precious insect to yours:
The Dandelion plays a vital role in attracting and supporting the life of bees. The Dandelion provides pollen earlier in the season as will the White clover. By growing your grass longer it will enable your lawn to flower.
Bees need water to cool their hives which is why providing a location for them to source water is a great way of attracting more to your garden. By filling a bowl with water you will be able to keep the bees hydrated however, please remember to fill the bowl with pebbles or perhaps even marbles to prevent the bees from drowning.
Aside from the captivating beauty of Wildflowers, there is an important reason behind their existence. A meadow of Wildflowers is a great way of attracting bees because they too provide nectar and pollen for the insects.
Even shrubs and small trees can create pollen in fact, 5 trees produces the same amount of pollen as an acre of meadow!
One of the most important things to consider is the use of pesticides. Nowadays there are plenty of natural ways to prevent your beds from attracting those unwanted visitors and it is important to keep your garden organic.
Grow some of these plants in your garden to keep the bees happy!
