Green Leaf- many hands make light work!

On the 15th June we had a Green Leaf day where by 22 local BB/self catering operators/hoteliers and other businesses in and around the New Forest got thier hands dirty in our Kitchen Garden Project in order to share best practise.

After a quick cup of Tea it was straight to work on the main Vegetable garden clearing weeds which our gardener had very kindly left some for us to clear, hoeing, harvesting the green beans and mange tout, and planting out different varieties of Lettuce. You will see from the photos below the transformation within a couple of hours before a well earned hearty Ploughmans and an ice cream of course! The tomato plants within the polly tunnels were also staked to improve the quality.

The other main project was to extend the chicken run which currently houses 28 Hens to enable us to increase to nearer 50. A team of us got to work on constructing the run which had its challenges but was eventually completed later that day.

A big thanks to everyone who attended and helped out and to Paul Fulford the Sustainable iniatives officer for organising the event and getting everybody together.
